The Faculty of Traditional Medicine (FoTM), under the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB), marked a historic milestone today (August 7th, 2025) with the official launch of the MD program in Acupuncture and Moxibustion.

The event was held at the conference hall of FoTM and was graced by the presence of Dr. Kuenzang Chenzom, Registrar and Officiating President of KGUMSB, who inaugurated the program as the Chief Guest.

One of the key highlights of the event was the official launch of the MD curriculum and thesis guideline for Acupuncture and Moxibustion, led by the Hon’ble Chief Guest. The Chief Guest handed over the Appointment Order of program leader to Drungtsho Kezang Tshering, who will now look after all the MD program in the faculty. To mark the occasion, four MD students were conferred Khadar by the Chief Guest.

In her keynote address, Dr. Kuenzang Chenzom lauded the efforts of the faculty and reiterated the university’s support in nurturing traditional medicine as an essential pillar of Bhutan’s healthcare system.

This historic launch signifies not just an academic advancement, but a reaffirmation of Bhutan’s age-old medical system through the scientific evolution of traditional practices like acupuncture and moxibustion.
