The museum was established by the Faculty of Traditional Medicine in the year 2020 under the leadership of the Dean Drungtsho Sangay Wangdi with the aims to preserve, promote and advocate the unique system of medicine in sowarigpa. The museum will also serve as a research centre for the faculty and other traditional medicine practitioners in the country.

One distinctive feature about the Sorig museum is that one can behold a sacred structure of the magnificent Tanadug Phodrang, the Celestial City of Medicine, which is the first of its kind in Bhutan and probably very rare around the globe.

Mounted at the centre of the Tanadug Phodrang is the structure of Medicine Buddha, surrounded by the four gigantic mountains located in the four geographical directions. This display of samples and models serves as useful tool for effective teaching learning process, not only to the students of the Faculty but also for the foreign visitors.

In a nut shell, Sorig Museum represents a remarkable blend of the past with the present; serving as a leading destination and learning center for history and culture of Bhutanese traditional medicine.
