\u00a0His \u00a0Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, the Third King of Bhutan commanded the Health Department to introduce Traditional Medicine Services in the country.<br \/>\n1968 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Established an Indigenous Dispensary at Dechencholing, Thimphu.<\/p>\n<p>1971 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Started on the job Training Programme for Menpa as per the 32nd \u00a0National \u00a0Assembly Resolution, Article Number 11\u00a0 at the Indigenous Dispensary<\/p>\n<p>1978 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Started Drungtsho Training Programme as per the Royal Command of \u00a0His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan<\/p>\n<p>1979 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Dispensary was upgraded as the Indigenous Hospital and shifted \u00a0to the present site in Kawang Jangsa from\u00a0 Dechencholing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0First Traditional Medicine Unit was established in Trashigang District.<\/p>\n<p>1982 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Started mechanized production of Traditional Medicines with support from the \u00a0World Health Organization (WHO)<\/p>\n<p>1988 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Indigenous Hospital was upgraded as the National Institute of Traditional\u00a0 Medicine with support from an Italian NGO\u00a0 (DISVI)<\/p>\n<p>1992 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0The Training Centre was shifted from Dechencholing to Kawang Jangsa.<\/p>\n<p>1996 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Instituted Revolving Fund for Pharmaceutical and Research Unit to ensure sustainability of traditional medicine\u00a0 production.<\/p>\n<p>1997 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0Established Pharmaceutical and Research Unit with support from \u00a0European Union.<\/p>\n<p>1998 \u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0National Institute of Traditional Medicine was upgraded as the Institute of \u00a0Traditional Medicine Service with the following functional units:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; National Institute of Traditional Medicine<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; National Traditional Medicine Hospital<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Pharmaceutical and Research Unit<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Created the post of Director for Traditional Medicine Services<\/p>\n<p>2001 \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0Completed the establishment of Traditional Medicine Unit in all 20 Districts.<\/p>\n<p>2003 \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0National Institute of Traditional Medicine became one of the Founding Members of the Royal University of Bhutan<\/p>\n<p>2008 \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0National Institute of Traditional Medicine formally became part of the Royal \u00a0University of Bhutan after signing the Memorandum of Understanding between\u00a0 the \u00a0Ministry of Health and the Royal University of Bhutan<\/p>\n<p>2011 \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0Royal University of Bhutan is delinked from the Royal Civil Service Commission \u00a0and\u00a0became as an Autonomous Organization through an Executive Order of the Prime\u00a0Minister of Bhutan<\/p>\n<p>2013 \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0National Institute of Traditional Medicine is delinked from the Royal \u00a0University of \u00a0Bhutan and became part of the newly established University of Medical\u00a0 Sciences of Bhutan as Faculty of Traditional Medicine<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0Created the Department of Traditional Medicine Services under the Ministry of \u00a0Health<\/p>\n<p>2015 &#8211; Launched the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1967\u00a0 &#8211;
