About Journal
Bhutan Sorig Journal is a publication of the Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, Thimphu, Bhutan. Sorig (or sowa rigpa) refers to the science of healing that has been in practice in Bhutan since times immemorial. The sorig system of medicine is highly popular and well sought after by people from Bhutan and other countries. Research in sowa rigpa and other forms of complementary and alternative medicine is a growing field with huge interests from researchers and scholars from Bhutan and countries in the region.
The erstwhile Men-jong Sorig Journal, an initiative of the Traditional Medicine Research and Development Committee, Ministry of Health, Royal Government of Bhutan was established in 2008. Between 2008 and 2022, eleven issues were published containing peer reviewed articles. With growing research output related to sowa rigpa in the country, the Faculty of Traditional Medicine launched the Bhutan Sorig Journal on 17 December 2023 to provide space for researchers and scholars to discuss and disseminate their findings.
